Laman Children’s Book Parties!

Instead of a book club, the Laman Children’s Department hosts Book Parties! Each month, they pick a theme- children ages 6 to 11 don’t have to read a specific book to join the party. They discuss books, do a few activities, and play games! If there is a TV show or movie based on the books, they will watch it as well. Upcoming Book Parties include the Bad Guy series by Aaron Blabey and Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney on April 27 at 3:30 PM. Book Parties meet every third Thursday at 3:30. No sign up required, for more information, contact Lauren Bradley at lauren.bradley@lamanlibrary.org .

Laman Teen Center’s Manga Monday

On the third Monday of every month (starting May 15), manga enthusiasts will join us in the Teen Center (except in June or July) and discuss their favorite manga, what new ones are out, and what manga they are currently hooked on! We will also have a few questions to ask: Has the book series drawn on too long? Some like One Piece have over 80 volumes! Is Naruto aging well? Etc. No sign up required, for more information contact Lacy Wolfe at lacy.wolfe@lamanlibrary.org

Laman Teen Center’s Where the Wild Books Are

Teens will meet once a month in the Teen Center (starting in June) and discuss a book that everyone has either read or started. We will kick this book club off with All My Rage by Sabaa Tahir on June 13 at 1 PM . The second meeting will be July 11 at 1 PM. Teens will also have the opportunity to help decide what book are discussed in the future. The main guideline is choosing a standalone book or the first in a series. After summer reading, the book club will be meet on the second Tuesday at 4 PM. No sign up required, for more information contact Lacy Wolfe at lacy.wolfe@lamanlibrary.org

Argenta Library’s Tuesday Book Talker

Laman Library’s Monday Mystery Club

The Monday Mystery Club meets on the second Monday of the month from 5:30-6:30 PM at Laman Library. Sign-ups are not required; just read the book and show up to talk about it! As the name suggests, this book club reads mystery books, and upcoming titles are Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann on May 8 and The Guest List by Lucy Foley on June 12. Come pick up a bookmark at the circulation desk for a preview of the rest of the year! For more information, contact Megan Hines at megan.hines@lamanlibrary.org

Reading the Hugos

Reading the Hugos is a book club that reads current and potential Hugo Award nominees. The Hugos are one of the most prestigious awards for science fiction and fantasy media, and one of only a few major awards that are actually voted on by readers! This book club meets at 1:00 PM on the first Saturday of the month at Dark Side Coffee Lounge, and sign-ups are not required. Our selection for May 6 is Nettle & Bone by T. Kingfisher. Then on June 3, assuming this year’s nominees have been announced by that time, we will read the short story and novelette Hugo nominees. Join and discuss these recent sci-fi and fantasy releases and whether you think they deserve to win a Hugo Award! For more information, contact Megan Hines at megan.hines@lamanlibrary.org
