Earth Day at the NLR Public Library System

As we celebrate Earth Month this April, the North Little Rock Public Library System is excited to offer a variety of events that encourage our community to live sustainably and protect our planet. We believe that small actions can have a big impact on the environment, and we hope to inspire our patrons to take steps towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

One of the highlights of our Earth Month events is our Homeschool STEAM Explorers program at Laman Library, designed for students in grades K-6. Join Ms. Lauren every Tuesday at 1 PM in April to explore all things plants, including topics like plant anatomy, pollinators, tree investigation, and plant DNA.

In addition to Homeschool STEAM Explorers, we\’re thrilled to offer an Arkansas Waterfalls Tour at Laman Library on April 8 from 10 AM to noon. This two-hour tour will take you to many of the waterfalls of Arkansas, allowing you to see their beauty and learn about their location and difficulty to find. Led by Casey Crocker, this large-format presentation will also offer photography tips.

For those interested in crafting with your favorite kiddos, drop by the Laman Library Children’s department on Saturdays in April for our Go Green April Crafts event. Using recycled materials, we’ll create works of art in celebration of Earth Day. Drop in anytime from 9 AM to 1 PM.

On April 29 from 10 AM to 11 AM, we’re hosting a Leave No Trace at Home workshop at Laman Library. Discover ways to reduce your impact while in nature or at home, and learn about reducing household waste and proper recycling habits.

Last but not least, join us for Botany for Beginners in the Laman Teen Center every Monday in April. On April 3, we’ll be learning about hydroponics, on the 10th we’ll be exploring flower drying, on the 17th we’ll be making seed bombs, and on the 24th we’ll conclude the series with a review. These events are for ages 12 to 18.
