Offer Bookworm Bargains for Library Card Sign-Up Month at Your Business

Since 1987, September has marked Library Card Sign-up Month, an annual event where the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide emphasize obtaining a library card for academic success and lifelong learning.

We invite you to support public libraries and their vital community role by participating in the “Bookworm Bargains” program.

The Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) and the North Little Rock Public Library System (NLRPLS) are collaboratively celebrating Library Card Signup Month. Local businesses are encouraged to join by enhancing the value of an already valuable asset – the library card. Throughout September, anyone presenting their library card (from CALS or NLRPLS) at participating businesses will enjoy a discount or special deal.

Businesses choosing to join the “Bookworm Bargains” program can decide on their level of discount. Options include a percentage discount, a gift (with or without a purchase), a “buy one get one” promotion, or a limited unique experience. We encourage businesses to select an option that appeals to guests while remaining feasible. While participation is voluntary, CALS and NLRPLS kindly request a commitment for the entire month of September.

If your business is excited to participate in the “Bookworm Bargains” program and contribute to the celebration of Library Card Sign-up Month, please get in touch with Kevin Newsom at kevin.newsom@lamanlibrary.org or LaReina Fuentes at lfuentes@cals.org by the August 18 deadline.

Numerous businesses have already joined the “Bookworm Bargains” program, demonstrating community support. Here are a few, listed alphabetically:

Moreover, CALS and NLRPLS are seeking sponsors for the Rock, Paper, Run 5K event on September 9. For more details, contact Eliza Borné at etborne@cals.org.
