Unleash Your Back-to-School Creativity at The Studio @ Laman Library!

by Mae Steele

As the school bells ring and students stream back into classrooms, and teachers put the finishing touches on their lesson plans, there’s an air of excitement that fills the corridors. Amidst this hustle and bustle of a new academic year, there’s one place that’s buzzing with innovative energy – William F. Laman Public Library.

Visit the second floor of Laman Library, and you’ll discover The Studio @ Laman, that features over 2,500 square feet dedicated to nurturing creativity. Over the past few weeks, educators from diverse disciplines, ranging from music to technology to civics, have been using the space to gear up for the return of their students. Some have created bulletin boards using our collection of over 500 die cuts. Others have printed educational posters of everything from key signatures to keyboards to classroom consequences. One teacher even made her own t-shirt to wear on the first day of school!

Beyond posters and bulletin boards, The Studio @ Laman offers hundreds of tools for crafting, fixing, cooking, and making. Peruse our Library of Things and check out a tile cutter, knitting loom, board game, a full-size skeleton model, or a cake pan in the shape of a castle (or a dinosaur, or a football stadium…). Are you tailgating? Check out a slow cooker. Wanting to try out an air fryer? You can check that out, too!

Yet, the offerings continue, extending to an array of in-house supplies that beckon you to delve into hands-on experiences. Seamstresses can sew their visions to life using our sewing machines. Crafters can let their creativity soar with the Cricut machine. Artists can paint their dreams into existence with a palette of art supplies. Innovators can breathe life into their imaginations with our in-house 3D printer.

For those seeking guidance on where to start their creative journey, The Studio @ Laman extends a warm invitation to explore an array of classes. Adults can delve into the realms of photography, quilting, crochet, and the art of utilizing the Cricut machine. Meanwhile, teenagers have their space too – they can immerse themselves in creative endeavors after school or savor the tranquility of the Slow Craft Hour on Monday mornings.
