Celebrate Earth Month with Us at the Library
April is Earth Month, and here at the North Little Rock Public Library System, we are celebrating the true library way- by bringing our community together for fun and free learning, creativity and connection! There is something great for everyone in our great community. Here are some ways you can come celebrate with us!
Ongoing Eco-Friendly Programs
One of the most special things about the library is how it creates opportunities to connect with nature all year long. Several recurring programs invite the community to slow down, get curious, and feel a little more hopeful about our planet.
Nature Club is a weekly favorite for little explorers, offering hands-on fun while learning about animals, plants, weather, and the world around us.
The Mary Oliver Club offers a peaceful space to reflect and reconnect. Each month, participants come together to read or listen to Mary Oliver’s poetry, then head out for a gentle, meditative walk along local trails. It’s open to tree huggers of all ages and provides a grounding and safe way to appreciate the natural world and explore our local trails.
Hope for the Future Film Club features uplifting, solution-focused nature documentaries paired with thoughtful conversation. These gatherings highlight what’s possible when communities work together toward a better, more sustainable future. This club fosters a community of folks who care for this planet and help each other to take action and stay hopeful.
Whether it’s helping kids discover nature, finding stillness in poetry and walking, or exploring hopeful environmental ideas through film, these programs remind us that every day can be Earth Day when we stay connected—to nature, and to each other.
Earth Day Celebrations – April 24
Every branch of our library system is getting in the spirit of Earth Day with unique and inspiring programs for all ages. Here’s what’s happening across the system on April 24:
At the Laman Library, the Adult Department is hosting a Repair Café, where patrons can bring in broken items and, with the help of skilled volunteers, give them a second life. Over in the Teen Department, there will be flower weaving using natural and upcycled materials—a beautiful way to create something new while honoring the planet. The Children’s Department will welcome a local author for a special Earth-themed storytime, followed by a collaborative community craft project.
At the Argenta Library, adults can stop by for a DIY tote bag-making session using the Cricut machine—perfect for carrying books, groceries, or anything else in sustainable style. The Children’s Department will host a fun Family Night where kids and caregivers can make seed paper globes—eco-friendly crafts that will grow into wildflowers once planted.
TThe Innovation Hub is joining in the celebration with an Earth Day Community Night. Expect an evening of eco-friendly fun, hands-on activities, and creative ways to honor our planet. Whether you’re an artist, maker, or just love celebrating nature, there’s something for everyone!
It’s shaping up to be a beautiful, creative, and meaningful Earth Day across all our branches—and everyone’s invited to be part of it.
Let’s Grow Together
Earth Month is more than a moment—it’s a movement. At the library, we believe that caring for the planet starts with caring for each other. As a hub for community, we bring people together, share knowledge, and empower small steps that lead to big change. Whether you're fixing what’s broken, planting seeds, or simply learning something new, it’s always more meaningful (and more fun!) when done with neighbors by your side.
